This time it’s crafted around the site’s first official e-mail request. I have to admit I did a double-take when I spotted the question sitting in the subject line of my inbox as the anonymous message came with no other text or information.

Well, even if the request was from a mysterious source, I’m more than happy to provide my readers with the answer:

“What’s the difference between antiperspirant and deodorant?”

It probably no surprise to learn that it’s the fermentation and multiplication of bacteria (caused by a combination of damp sweat and body heat) which creates your own distinctive musk.

Deodorants work by concealing your smell with perfumes, killing the microorganisms with antibacterial agents and utilizing components that are designed to reduce the life cycle of unwanted microbes. By contrast, antiperspirants contain chemical compounds that ‘clog’ the pores of your skin; if you prevent the perspiration in the first place, there’s nowhere for the bacteria to colonize – ergo, less sweat and less smell.
