Bold, adventurous looks are always a worthwhile pursuit - I hope some of the less spirited visitors are willing to give something like this a go (eventually at least). Socks are a great choice when it comes to crazy experimentation; it's like the old saying goes, it's always best to try things in an inconspicuous area first and your socks are the perfect place; they aren't on display 24/7 like a shirt, but similarly they aren't hidden away like your underwear. I have a favorite pair of horizontal striped (broad) socks that are 3 shades of blue, and I enjoy wearing them with maroon pants.
