A question I’m often asked is, “where can you learn about new male fashion trends?” It can be incredibly tough discovering where the next big thing is coming from in the world of couture, especially when there are so few sources readily available for men.
What follows is a simple list of suggestions as to where you can discover your latest fashion fixes. Feel free to leave your own ideas in the comments section below.
Online
Obviously, your easiest outlet for discovery is the Internet. Content is generated on a second by second basis; it’s always fresh and on the pulse, plus best of all, it’s absolutely free (well, in most cases anyway).
First port of call should be the Guy Style Guide links list – here you’ll find a list of top male fashion and grooming related sites. These are always stuffed to the gills full of information.
Secondly, try heading to web portals that deal with men’s fashion. Directories such as Blogged.com and Independent Fashion Bloggers are a great place to start.
Magazines
While printing information on dead trees seems to be a dying art, you’d be amazed at the number of magazines still available for subscription. From GQ to Men’s Health, there are plenty of ‘zines that cover men’s issues. Often there are great introductory offers for new subscribers, with some publications offering one years subscription for less than the cover price of a single issue!
Don’t think you have to lay down big bucks though. There are great men’s mags available for free. For example, check out the latest issue of the weekly men’s giveaway paper, Shortlist.
Retail outlets
Don’t underestimate what bricks and mortar can offer you! Unlike many online retailers, shops have to vie for your shopping eye and therefore create stunning on-trend clothing combos to dress the mannequins with.
Retailers can also offer advice on what they’re seeing on a daily basis. Unsure about sourcing the latest selvage denim looks? Ask the store clerk for the inside scoop.
Newsletters
Sign up for these in your droves. For example, male retailing favourite Topman do a particularly good job of issuing regular flyers to let you know all about their latest stock.
Always mark down your contact details when given the opportunity in-store. You’ll usually find some kind of mailing list signup sheet by the checkout counter, or at least a handful of flyers with great information on the store’s latest products.
Sign up for e-newsletters too. Simply hit up your preferred online retailer and look for the button marked ‘newsletter’.
Attend events
It’s always ‘fashion week’ somewhere on the planet! Search for local events and mark them down on your calendar. If you don’t fancy going through the hassle of actually attending the event, you can always make a note to look online for photos and reviews of the occasion after the fact.
Don’t forget that exhibitions and events also give you a prime opportunity to talk to insiders who have the inside scoop about upcoming product lines. If you want to be ahead of the fashion curve, it’s a great place to start!

As a guy I find it hard to clothes that work well for me and my shape, I know women are always saying things like this but it makes sense for men as well, it is not that I an odd shape I just can’t always rely on clothes to fit me, so when the latest style comes out I wonder if it is going to fit before wondering if I like it.
