It’s time once again for my occasional feature on universal ideas for fashion in the forthcoming seasons. Let’s take a peek at the sizzling looks that’ll be making their way to the shelves over the spring and summer months, but will still appeal long after the fine weather has vanished.
Come the height of summer, you’ll be trying to decide which sandals to wear at your resort holiday. But what happens when you need to need to break free from the confines of the poolside area? The answer lies in deck shoes…
Midway between loafers and espadrilles, topsiders are a perfect compromise for those seeking an informal shoe. Don’t go for traditional nautical pageantry though, unless you plan on sailing away next season; instead, find your favorite neutral tone that’ll match everything inside your wardrobe.
More specifically, not the ribbed cardigans your grandfather wore, but the lighter more flexible contemporary versions. They’ll certainly keep you snug when the night draws in and the air gets chilly, plus they’ll easily last you the next six months without having to feel style conscious.
Chunkier guys should definitely use caution, and not add those ‘invisible pounds’ with extra fabric. Moreover, if you want the cardigan to outlast the season, make sure you pick simple, traditional tones rather than the latest ‘hot’ tints doing the rounds right now. Speaking of which…
Cyan, Aqua & Pink
If you’re looking for colors that are making the rounds right now, you can’t go too far wrong with any of these. Always keep your skin tone in mind when selecting your shades though, and remember to err on the side of caution – don’t overload yourself with a single tone; nobody wants to be ‘Mr. Monochrome’!
Wherever you go at the moment, you’ll find high street stores are returning to tradition. While you may think this applies only to suits and ties, increasingly you’ll see summer and spring ranges embracing the idea of going ‘back to basics’.
Now is the perfect time to stock up on plain colored slacks, simple linen shirts and other fundamentals. Not only are they light on the purse-strings, their timeless nature means you won’t have to ‘splash the cash’ again next year.
Be Cautious When Buying…
Bold Graphic Tees
As regular readers know, I’ve started to include a cautionary section in my seasonal posts (last time I told you to exercise caution with chunky knits). This time around, I’m going to advise you against throwing down major bucks on bold designer graphic tees.
These are absolutely everywhere at the moment, and the designers are sucking up the cash; just remember though, this time next year you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone wearing these ‘high fashion’ pieces.
